Just how big is the Okanogan Complex?

Right now, the Okanogan Complex is a staggering 438 square miles and growing. It is difficult to contextualize just how large that is. Here I have created a bar chart which tells us “How many of cities the size of insert your city here could fit inside the burn area of the Okanogan Complex?” The white horizontal lines count off the number of city copies that could fit inside the burn area (i.e. you can fit x copies of city y within the burn area).

I am a third year graduate student at the University of Washington's Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management program. My research aims to better describe the cross-sectional wildfire growth data using statistical methods. These techniques can be used to more thoroughly describe wildfire regimes.
